Covid Finally Got Me

So, here we are, nearly 2 and half years later and I finally got sick with Covid. I was a little surprised to be honest because I had just been bragging to my dad about how I was fairly confident that the vaccine and multiple boosters had done its trick and I was immune to Covid. Jokes on me for jinxing myself.

My immediate thought when I tested positive was my concern that I may had inadvertently infected my mother or father. Thankfully that hasn’t been the case and I’m extremely extremely happy about that. My second thought was, well I’m vaxxed and boosted so I should be fine. Let me tell you something, if I hadn’t been I would have been seriously concerned for my health and I want to tell you a bit about my first 5 days with the rona in a little first person narrative:

Day 1:

I woke up feeling a bit stuffy, little tickle in my throat but no real thought of the fact that I may be sick. I ate some breakfast and went about my day with no symptoms other than congestion and a bit of fatigue. At about 6pm I noticed I had been sweating and my heart rate was a bit elevated so I took my temperature, 100. Damnit I think I’m sick now. A couple hours later and I was starting to experience a lot more congestion and a bit more coughing but it felt like a strong cold and nothing more so I figured I’d be ok.

Day 2:

Woke up feeling like hell on a stick. Took a Covid rapid test and there it was positive. I felt super shitty so I took my morning dosage of Tylenol and vitamins and went back to sleep. Woke up around noon with my chest super sore from all my sneezing and coughing. (No joke I think over the last week I’ve sneezed 1,000x.) I spent the majority of the day in bed watching The Umbrella Academy and took another nap around 4–5pm. When I woke up at 7pm I was fucking FREEZING. I legit was shaking like a leaf, the chills were so bad my teeth were literally chattering. It was the craziest experience of my life and something I’ve never felt before. I took a hot shower, more meds, and got back into bed.

Day 3: Woke up feeling a bit better, besides the sever strain in my chest and soreness of my ribs from coughing and sneezing I tricked myself into thinking I was over the worst part of the sickness. Later that afternoon around 2pm or so I got another crazy freezing spell with the chills and shaking that put me on my ass. A hot shower later and much more medicine I was sleeping and dealing with the symptoms as they came.

Day 4: Kind of felt almost like myself again. I would rate my overall feeling somewhere like a 5.5/10, not better but certainly no worse than before. Then the weirdest thing happened, I lost my sense of smell and taste. If I’m being honest this has been the worst symptom of the entire experience (besides the shivering fits) and it’s bugging me out. It’s the most disorienting experience in the world not being able to smell or taste anything. Totally fucking with me still.

Day 5: (Today) I slept like a god damn baby. I got 8-hours of deep full rest (shout out to my Whoop) and I feel more or less ok. I’d say 6.5/10. I’m still very congested and have a very slight cough but I’m on my way back to normal. I have a slight headache from time to time and the whole smell and taste thing is bugging me out but otherwise I feel on the mend. My hope is that with no return of any more serious symptoms I’m on the road to recovery.

That was a long story and detail of my 5 days so far with Covid. If I’m being honest I’m super glad I got vaccinated and boosted because if I had more than 2 days of that shivering/sweating/freezing alternating back and forth coupled with coughing and sneezing my brains out I woulda been concerned.

Do what you want with your body and your life but if I’m any sort of testament I think I’m on the mend quicker because of the advancements of modern medicine. :)
